Adjunct Associate Professor Alka Saxena

Director, Genomics WA

Genomics WA is led by our founding Director Adjunct Associate Professor Alka Saxena, who is a  clinician-scientist with a PhD from the University of Melbourne and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Professor Saxena is a scientific expert in Genomics technologies and Bioinformatics data analyses with international experience. She is skilled in a vast range of manual and automated library preparations, data generation on short and long read NGS and microarray platforms, and bioinformatics data analysis for Illumina, Helicos and Oxford Nanopore sequencers.

In her previous role, Professor Saxena was the Head of the Genomics Research Platform at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and senior research fellow at King's College London, where she led the genomics core facility and established and led the MRC funded Single Cell laboratory and NIHR funded BRC Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) Genomics lab.
