Professor Charlene Kahler is a distinguished researcher in infectious diseases with a focus on the pathogens causing invasive meningococcal disease and gonorrhoea. She is currently a member of the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence for the control of Neisserial diseases in Australia. As Director of the Marshall centre, she leads a team of 20 research groups who work collaboratively on creating interventions to stem the adverse health impacts of infections caused by antibiotic resistant microorganisms. She is an external scientific advisor for multiple start-up companies in Perth and an advocate for innovation in teaching and research in the School of Biomedical Sciences.
